Sentinus, in partnership with Construction Futures NI, is giving schools the opportunity to participate in a project based learning programme focusing on the design and planning of new construction development sites. This years programme is only open to primary schools in the greater Belfast area.
Construction Futures strives to be an industry driven force for excellence through Innovation, Inclusion, Sustainability and lifelong learning, ensuring a brighter future for all involved in construction. While the nature and the design of proposed construction sites are designed by professional teams, there is an opportunity to engage with young people to develop a vision for what these open construction sites might look like in the future.
This primary school programme will showcase the past, present and future of the Construction Industry in NI and help young people gain an understanding of the importance, the skills and the job roles within construction. Commencing with a practical workshop at your school, delivered by Sentinus, pupils will embark on a future construction project and continue to develop the project, with the help of industry experts and display the completed project at a celebration event.
This project will allow teachers to link classroom learning to all areas of the World Around Us, including History, Geography, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Each school will be provided with activities and resources to help develop their project ahead of the celebration event.
The celebration event will be a showcase of each participating schools projects, where they will have the opportunity to meet and communicate all of their ideas and project work to industry representatives. The celebration event will also include a host of STEM workshops, a Science Show and showcases from construction industry experts.
Schools participating in the programme MUST attend and display their completed project at the STEMstruct celebration event, taking place on Wednesday 3rd December 2025 at Queens University PEC Belfast.
Registeration for the 2025/26 programme is now closed.
