STEM Challenges
Sentinus is delighted to announce the release of five STEM Challenge packs!
Each pack is designed to provide approximately 10 hours problem solving and investigative science and technology activities which can be carried out at home. In the pack you will find all the materials you need to do the activities, along with an instruction booklet. When you purchase a pack you will also receive a link to allow you to download supporting videos to help you carry out the challenges.
Prices include UK Postage & Packaging, you should receive the pack within five working days after placing your order. A 15% discount will be applied when buying more than one of any pack (use Multi Buy option). In addition to the Challenge materials, each pack will include two free STEM activities.
When you have completed the activities, you can help Sentinus improve the quality of the packs by completing the short survey at the bottom of this page.
Pack 1 – Code & Create
Recommended Age Range: KS2 (P5-P7)
Supervision Level: Low
Difficulty Rating: Medium
The BBC Micro:bit is a pocket sized computer packed full of technology. The Code & Create pack will teach you a number of programs for coding projects on the Micro:bit. Starting from no assumed knowledge of coding in session one to being able to produce complex codes all within just 5 sessions. With the Micro:bit the coding doesn’t end when the sessions are complete, there are hundreds of program options to try. The only limit is your imagination!
Pack 2 – Design & Build
Recommended Age Range: KS2 (P5-P7)
Supervision Level: Low
Difficulty Rating: Medium
Throughout the Design & Build pack you will learn all about the world of engineering. You will be challenged to build several projects to meet specific design briefs. The importance of careful designing and forward thinking are emphasised in each session to allow your designs to succeed. The sessions will cover a wide range of projects from building cars, bridges and even a rollercoaster. Do you think you are ready to become an engineer?
Pack 3 – Forensics
Recommended Age Range: KS2 (P5-P7)
Supervision Level: Low
Difficulty Rating: Medium
Do you have what it takes to solve the mystery? Over the 5 sessions in the Forensics pack you will handle a wide range of evidence including fingerprint analysis, chromatography and cracking codes, all with the aim of working out which of the suspects is guilty.
Pack 4 – Marvellous Magnets (Temporarily Out of Stock)
Recommended Age Range: KS3 (Y1-Y3)
Supervision Level: Medium
Difficulty Rating: Hard
The Marvellous Magnets pack will teach you all about how magnets behave and how they are impacted by electricity by completing lots of exciting experiments. Experiments include testing magnetic strength, creating your own electromagnet and designing a battery powered car. Are you ready to learn all about magnets?
Pack 5 – Tasty Science (Temporarily Out of Stock)
Recommended Age Range: KS1 (P1-P4)
Supervision Level: High
Difficulty Rating: Easy
You are what you eat, but do you know what’s actually in your food? The Tasty Science pack contains loads of fun experiments to teach kids all about food and how their diet effects their bodies. This pack is bursting with activities, experiments, and short projects all to be completed at home using food products you will have in your cupboard.
