STEM Experiences

Sentinus, supported by the Department of Education, is organising three STEM Experience events to promote
engagement in STEM (Science & Technology, Engineering & Maths) at Key
Stages 2 & 3. These will
engage pupils, in Years 6-9, in a range of hands on problem solving activities,
exciting demonstration lectures and visits to interactive stands provided by
companies, universities and other organisations.
The
events will take place as follows:
24th
November 2009 – King’s Hall, Belfast – Primary
25th
November 2009 – King’s Hall, Belfast – Secondary
23rd
February 2010 – City Hotel Derry– Primary
24th
February 2010 – City Hotel Derry – Secondary
9th
March 2010 – Armagh City Hotel – Primary
10th
March 2010 – Armagh City Hotel – Secondary
King’s
Hall Event
Pupils
attending this full day event will attend a total of four 50 minute interactive
workshops and demonstrations during the day. These will include:

robotics workshops;
·
forensic science
workshop;
·
chemical rockets
workshop;
·
flight workshop;
·
interactive maths show;
·
interactive science
show;
·
super capacitor powered
hovercraft workshop;
·
pneumatic rockets;
·
K’Nex challenge.
These
activities will be augmented by a range of interactive stands and
demonstrations provided by companies, universities and other organisations.
Armagh
& Derry Events
These
will be half day events at which all pupils will attend an interactive science
show followed by two hands on interactive workshops. The activities will include;

·
interactive maths
workshop;
·
super capacitor powered
hovercraft workshop;
·
pneumatic rockets;
·
flight workshop;
·
K’Nex challenge.
