Energy Challenge
Target Group: Years 9 - 11
The Energy Challenge is a STEM resource which has been developed by Sentinus to encourage the development of links between secondary schools and local business and industry. After an introduction to the concept of renewable energy through a half day hands on roadshow, teams of pupils are given an opportunity to assess a local company premises for suitability for installation of renewable energy technology. The programme is carried out over a number of weeks and the students compile a report, including recommendations on how the company can reduce energy consumption and move towards renewable energy, and present this to representatives from the company. Through the programme young people enhance their understanding of business and develop a range of skills sought by employers, including teamwork, communication, target setting and presentation skills.
